Timminco Limited announces preliminary decision of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced today that Timminco Limited's (Timminco) imports into the United States of alloy magnesium extrusion billets produced in Canada are not covered by existing anti-dumping orders against magnesium from Russia or China. The Commerce Department initiated its inquiry at the request of U.S. Magnesium LLC., a Utah-based magnesium company. Over the course of the 12-month inquiry, Timminco demonstrated to the Commerce Department that its magnesium alloy extrusion billets produced in Haley, Ontario and used as feedstock for its Aurora, Colorado magnesium extrusion plant are, in fact, products of Canada. The Commerce Department ruling issued today is a preliminary decision and a final decision is expected on October 31, 2006.
"We are gratified that the Department of Commerce has objectively reviewed all of the facts submitted in this case" said Dr. Charles Entrekin, President and CEO of Timminco. "The Commerce Department's decision in Timminco's favor is critical to the customers and employees of Timminco's Aurora, Colorado magnesium extrusion plant - the only one of its kind in North America" added Tim R. Pretzer, President of Timminco's Magnesium Division.
