It is shown that various organic molecules can be incorported in highly ordered silica material with MCM-41 architecture & modify their properties. Such organically modified materials have a large application potential in areas such as optics, sensing, adsorption, catalysis & environment protection.

Reduction of Ceramic Machining Defects by Regulated Force Feeding Grinding System

Excessive grinding forces acting on grinding surfaces cause defects during grinding of fragile materials. A new grinding system (regulated force feeding, RFF) has been developed in order to minimize the excessive forces. The new system regulates feeding force instead of feeding speed.

Effect of Oxygen Partial Pressure on the Growth of ZnO Clusters by Electric Current Heating with Thermite Reaction and UV Emission

When aluminium powder was placed on a ZnO ceramic bar and a certain current flowed through the bar, the thermite reaction occurred and clusters of ZnO crystals grew on the bar. UV Emissions were measured as a function of oxygen partial pressure.

Low-Temperature Sintering of Barium Titanate Using a Microwave Sintering Process

In this research, our aim was to lower the sintering temperature of barium titanate using features of microwave sintering, namely selective heating and rapid heating, by promoting liquid phase generation which facilitates a lower temperature than normal sintering.

Characterization of Heavy Oil Fly Ash Generated from a Power Plant

The physical and chemical properties of heavy oil fly ash generated from a power plant were investigated. This study has found, heavy oil fly ash has the potential to be reutilized as a black pigment or admixture for secondary cementious material.

Preparation and Properties of Low-cost á-Sialon Ceramics Synthesized from Slag

The SHS technique has greater potential for producing cheap sialon materials. The á-sialon powder synthesized from slag displays properties suitable for the preparation of ceramics. The as-sintered slag á-sialon shows good mechanical properties & excellent anti-erosion/wear properties.

Surface Modification of -TiAl Alloys by Nitrogen Plasma Deposition

Two ã-TiAl alloys, Ti-47 at%Al-2 at%Nb-2 at%Cr(MJ12) and Ti-47 at%Al-2 at%Nb- 2 at%Mn+0.8 at%TiB2 (MJ47), have been modified in a nitrogen-ion plasma. Hardness and wear resistance were evaluated and surfaces characterised by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive x-ray
