Xilinx All Programmable 3D Heterogeneous Product Wins 2013 Innovation Award

Xilinx, Inc. today announced that its Virtex®-7 H580T FPGA was presented as winner of the SoC and Programmable Logic category in the 2013 Innovation Awards, organized by Italian magazine Selezione di Elettronica. Presented at the Innovation Award Gala on September 26 in Milan, Xilinx was awarded the winner among 11 other entrants.

Fraunhofer researchers have developed a sensor-based measurement system that is integrated directly in the cleaning system, where it registers and analyzes particles caught up in the cleansing fluid. Researchers Study Effective Velocity of Sound in Liquid Foams

Liquid foams fascinate toddlers singing in a bubble bath. Physicists, too, have an interest in their acoustical properties. Borrowing from both porous material and foam science, Juliette Pierre from the Paris Diderot University, Paris, France and her colleagues studied liquid foams. They used an impedance tube to measure the velocity and attenuation of acoustic waves in liquid foams in a broad frequency range.

Researchers Extract DNA from Cultured Pearls in an Almost Non-Destructive Way

For a long time, it was thought impossible to isolate a pearl's genetic material. Now, a Swiss research team has achieved this elusive goal. Scientists Joana Meyer, from the ETH Institute of Integrative Biology group headed by Prof. Bruce McDonald, and Laurent Cartier of the Swiss Gemmological Institute (SSEF), under the direction of Michael Krzemnicki, succeeded for the first time in extracting trace amounts of DNA from a variety of cultured pearls in an almost non-destructive way.
