Internal, Invisible Tags Can be Generated Using 3D Printing Process

The age of 3D printing, when every object so created can be personalized, will increase the need for tags to keep track of everything. Happily, the same 3D printing process used to produce an object can simultaneously generate an internal, invisible tag, say scientists at Carnegie Mellon University and Microsoft Research.

Minerals Technologies Expands Nano-Precipitated Calcium Carbonate Manufacturing Operations

Minerals Technologies Inc. announced today that it has completed Phase I of the 10,000-ton expansion of its production line for ultrafine Specialty precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) at the company's Adams, Massachusetts, facility, and that Phase II of the expansion will be completed by the first quarter of 2014. Specialty PCCs are used in non-paper end products like food, pharmaceuticals, sealants and adhesives.

University of Glasgow Receives Grant for Nanofabrication Process Research Using Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology Tools

The University of Glasgow has been awarded a £3m share of £85m new government funding for equipment to support pioneering research to improve the efficiency of electronic and optical components.
