SINOPEC Subsidiary Selects LP Oxo Technology for Anqing City Butanol Plant

Davy Process Technology Limited (DPT), a Johnson Matthey company, and The Dow Chemical Company announced that China Petrochemical International Company Limited, a subsidiary of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC), China’s largest petrochemical company, has once again selected LP OxoSM Technology to produce 2-ethylhexanol, normal butanol and iso butanol in a plant in Anqing City, Anhui Province, China.

Imec Demonstrates Intra-Cardiac Signal Processing Chip for Ventricular Fibrillation Detection at ISSCC 2013

Imec demonstrated a low-power (20µW), intra-cardiac signal processing chip for the detection of ventricular fibrillation at this weekfs International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC 2013) in San Francisco with Olympus. An important step toward next-generation Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy solutions, the new chip delivers innovative signal processing functionalities and consumes only 20µW when all channels are active, enabling the miniaturization of implantable devices.

NanoH2O to Deliver QuantumFlux Membranes to Palmachim Desalination Plant in Israel

NanoH2O Inc., manufacturer of the most efficient and cost-effective reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for seawater desalination, today announced that it has been selected by Via Maris Desalination Ltd. to provide QuantumFlux (Qfx) high rejection membranes for the expansion of the Palmachim desalination plant in Israel. Via Maris Desalination Ltd., owner and operator of the Palmachim plant, purchased QuantumFlux high rejection membranes for an existing 36,000 cubic meter capacity seawater RO train in 2012 and will commission two additional trains in 2013. These three trains will produce a combined total of 110,000 cubic meters of potable water per day.

New Type of Coating Provides Higher Protection against Metal Corrosion

Researchers at the Universitat Jaume I de Castellón (Spain) are working on a new type of coating that provides higher protection against metal corrosion due to its improved adherence to the metal surface and its anti-corrosion properties. The novelty resides in the elements used in the treatment of the paints through three chemically different pathways and the synergistic effect they produce. When the components interact, adherence of the paint to the metal substrate increases and anticorrosive properties improve. This way, the new coatings offer, with a single layer, a protection as good as when a pre-treatment is used.
