FUJIFILM Introduces LTO Ultrium6 Data Cartridge

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) announces the introduction of the "LTO Ultrium 6 Data Cartridge", a magnetic tape media certified by the Linear Tape Open (LTO) Technology Provider Companies (TPC). Fujifilm achieved the super high compressed capacity of 6.25TB with a transfer rate up to 400MB/second by applying Fujifilm's original Barium Ferrite magnetic particles to the advanced NANOCUBIC technology.

BASF Introduces Cost-Efficient Anionic Surface Sizing Agent for Packaging

Since its invention by BASF, polymeric surface sizing agents (PSA) have seen many developments to reach their current performance levels. Recently, research, development and application specialists at BASF jointly completed their work on a new product for this established technology that allows papermakers to significantly improve on sizing costs. Traditionally, PSA for the liner segment used cationic polymers. This however limited the coloration to certain product ranges.

Resolute Forest Products Announces Industrial Wood Pellet Plant Construction

Resolute Forest Products today announced plans to build an industrial wood pellet plant that will convert a currently underutilized residual material into a reliable source of renewable energy. Construction of the plant is expected to begin shortly and is scheduled for completion in 2014. The Company has signed a ten-year agreement to supply Ontario Power Generation with 45,000 metric tons of pellets annually.

Researchers Explore Behavior of Magnesium Under Extreme Conditions

The mantles of Earth and other rocky planets are rich in magnesium and oxygen. Due to its simplicity, the mineral magnesium oxide is a good model for studying the nature of planetary interiors. New work from a team led by Carnegie's Stewart McWilliams studied how magnesium oxide behaves under the extreme conditions deep within planets and found evidence that alters our understanding of planetary evolution. It is published November 22 by Science Express.

Blue Sphere Signs LOI with International Compost Production and Marketing Company

Blue Sphere Corp. (the "Company" or "Blue Sphere"), a company in the Cleantech and Waste to Energy sectors as a project integrator, is pleased to announce that each of its two waste to energy projects - a 5.2 MW plant in North Carolina and a 3.2 MW plant in Rhode Island - has signed a letter of intent with an international compost manufacturing and marketing company at prices of up to $20 per ton of compost. With a combined daily output of 100 tons, that amounts to $730,000 in annual revenue or $438,000 in annual revenue from the North Carolina plant and $292,000 in annual revenue from the Rhode Island plant.

New Technique to Lower Phosphorous Content in Pulp Mill Wastewater

Researchers at Aalto University have developed a simple method for reducing the amount of phosphorus in the wastewater of a pulp mill. The method is called simultaneous precipitation using iron sulphate. A separate treatment stage is not required, as the precipitation takes place simultaneously with the actual biological wastewater treatment.
