Surface Transforms Wins Innovation Award

Cheshire-based Surface Transforms was announced winner of a local business award for ‘Innovation and Research’ on Wednesday 9 June. The Company scooped the title, which was part of the very first Vale Royal Business Awards, at a ceremony held at the Portal Golf and Country Club in Tarporley, Cheshire.

Surface Transforms develops and manufactures high-tech carbon fibre reinforced ceramic materials used in a range of applications from braking systems in aircraft to nozzles on rocket propulsion missiles. It beat off stiff competition to take the ‘Innovation and Research’ prize. The judges were impressed by the Company’s dedication to research and the fact that innovation is a continuous and key part of achieving its business advantage.

Recently, Surface Transforms has also enjoyed the success of signing a major new contract with the UK Ministry of Defence to investigate the use of its technology in body and vehicle armour.

Julio Faria, Managing Director of Surface Transforms, commented:

“We’re thrilled to have won this award - it’s a great compliment to our technology and I thank all the team at Surface Transforms for their continued hard work. We have had a fantastic year so far, having recently raised £2.7 million in new funds and secured the MoD contract which represents a new and important application for our materials. To be named the top company for innovation in the region is the icing on the cake.”
