KEMET Introduces KPS Series X7R Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor

KEMET Corporation (NYSE Amex: KEM), a leading manufacturer of tantalum, multilayer ceramic, solid aluminum, film, paper and electrolytic capacitors, today announced the release of its KPS Series (KEMET Power Solution) X7R multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC).

The KEMET KPS Series utilizes proprietary lead frame technology to vertically stack one or two MLCCs into a parallel circuit in a single compact surface mount package. The lead frame isolates the capacitors from the printed circuit board, offering advanced mechanical and thermal stress performance and addressing concerns for audible, microphonic noise that may occur when a bias voltage is applied. Stacking allows for up to double the capacitance in the same or smaller design footprint when compared to traditional surface mount MLCC devices.

“KEMET’s KPS Series provides a superior, high capacitance, high reliability solution with improved flex performance for severe applications,” said Dr. Philip Lessner, KEMET Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “KPS clearly demonstrates KEMET’s continued commitment to technological leadership and serving our customers as The Capacitance Company.”

KPS Series capacitors are environmentally friendly and in compliance with RoHS legislation. Currently available in X7R dielectric, these devices are capable of Pb-Free reflow profiles and provide lower ESR and higher ripple current capability when compared to other dielectric solutions.

Designed for demanding applications such as power supplies, typical applications include smoothing circuits, DC-to-DC converters, input/output filters, piezoelectric and mechanical noise reduction, and improving flex performance in board flex application. KPS is targeted for the alternative energy, industrial/lighting, automotive, military/aerospace and telecommunications markets. Pricing ranges from $.80 to $5.00 depending on specifications and volume.
