New Energy Technologies, National Renewable Energy Laboratory Partner to Develop SolarWindow Technology

Developer of next-generation sustainable energy technologies, New Energy Technologies has inked a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of The U.S. Department of Energy to speed up the commercial production of SolarWindow, which produces electric power on see-thru glass.

As per the conditions of the CRADA, NREL, a sophisticated photovoltaic research institute, will utilize its intellectual property as well as New Energy Technologies’ intellectual property to develop advanced products for the photovoltaic market.

The advancements include enhancement of translucency and efficiency of SolarWindow and its electrical power output, development of enhanced electricity-producing coatings with improved durability, processing, performance and size increment of SolarWindow’s active layer, a major step in enlarging the size of the final product. The advancements also include optimization of the SolarWindow’s active layer coatings application to enhance electricity production on see-thru glass surfaces.

The Director of National Center for Photovoltaics at NREL, Ryne Raffaelle, stated that NREL is happy about the deal with New Energy Technologies to develop the SolarWindow technology.

The President and Chief Executive Officer at New Energy Technologies, John A. Conklin, stated that the NREL’s expertise in the photovoltaic market would assist the company’s research work on its SolarWindow technology development at the University of South Florida.
