MIT Bounding Algorithm Enables Cheetah Robot to Sprint over Grass

Researchers at MIT have developed a new bounding algorithm, which enabled a cheetah robot to sprint across grass. During indoor tests it reached a speed of 10mph and on the Killian Court it bounded at a steady clip. This robot is expected to reach a speed of 30mph.

MIT Design Innovative "Skin-Tight" Spacesuits Using Shape Memory Alloys

Researchers from the MIT have succeeded in designing a skin-tight, pressurized spacesuit integrated with tiny, spring-like coils, which contract when heated. Shape-memory alloy (SMA) was used to create the coil. SMA is a material that can return to its original shape when bent or deformed. It has the unique property of “remembering” its original shape.

Lockheed Martin Defense Weather Satellite Receives Operational Acceptance Into DMSP Constellation

The newest Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellite, built by Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT], was accepted for operations by U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) on August 19. This acceptance formally adds DMSP Flight-19 to the existing DMSP constellation. The satellite constellation provides weather data and forecasting information to civilian and military users.
