Mubadala Enters Agreement with Boeing to Supply Advanced Composites and Machined Metals

Boeing and Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala) today announced a new strategic agreement that will increase the long-term role of Mubadala as a Tier 1 supplier to Boeing. Through their agreement, signed at the 2013 Dubai Airshow, Mubadala has the opportunity to supply as much as $2.5 billion in advanced composites and machined metals to Boeing commercial programs, including the 787 and 777X.

JDSU and Amada Develop High-Power 4kW Fiber Laser for Cutting Thick and Thin Metals

JDSU today announced that it has collaborated with Amada, a leading manufacturer of machine tools for metal fabrication, to develop a new and high-power fiber laser that provides up to 4 kilowatts of output power. The fiber laser has been integrated into a new sheet metal cutting system from Amada called the ENSIS-3015AJ that is being demonstrated at the FABTECH event at booth #S901 in Chicago, Illinois this week.

Spectrolab’s New Multi-Junction Solar Cell Achieves Record 38.8% Efficiency

Boeing subsidiary Spectrolab recently set a new world record by producing a solar cell that converted 38.8 percent of solar energy into electricity, more than any other ground-based solar cell not using concentrated sunlight. The U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo., verified the new record, which beats Spectrolab’s own previous world record by 1 percent.
