New Approach Using Commodity Inkjet Printers for Rapid Prototyping of Fully Custom-Printed Circuits

Researchers from Georgia Tech, the University of Tokyo and Microsoft Research have developed a novel method to rapidly and cheaply make electrical circuits by printing them with commodity inkjet printers and off-the-shelf materials. For about $300 in equipment costs, anyone can produce working electrical circuits in the 60 seconds it takes to print them.

NIST’s Innovative Detection Technologies Play Key Role in OPCW Efforts to Eliminate Chemical Weapons

Innovative chemical weapons detection technologies developed by scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) have played a key role in the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons' (OPCW) efforts to eliminate chemical weapons. For their work overseeing the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the recent UN inspections in Syria, OPCW was recently recognized with the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize.

North American Demand for Specialty Structural Engineered Wood Panels Expected to Grow to 40 Billion Square Feet by 2016

Demand for OSB and plywood structural engineered wood panels in North America is expected to reach about 30 billion (3/8” basis) square feet in 2013 and grow to nearly 40 billion square feet by 2016. Specialty OSB and plywood panels are the fastest growing segments within the business. Specialty panels offer value-added performance benefits compared to commodity panels, which enable manufacturer product differentiation in the market, some protection from competitive pressures through specification selling, leading to steady demand and higher margins.

Saint-Gobain Provides Sapphire-Engineered Transparent Armor for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Launcher

The United States Army and Marine Corps received its 100th set of sapphire-engineered armor to make the bulletproof windshields and door windows of the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Launcher significantly safer and more durable. Saint-Gobain Crystals, part of the Saint-Gobain family of companies, provided the breakthrough, sapphire based technology. The New Hampshire National Guard, based in Nashua, was the first to have its rocket launchers retrofitted.

ThyssenKrupp Enters Agreement with De Nora to Expand Electrolysis Plant Business

As part of its Strategic Way Forward, ThyssenKrupp is strengthening its plant engineering and construction activities and now plans to expand its electrolysis plant business through a joint venture. Plant engineering and construction specialist ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions has reached an agreement with De Nora, an electrochemical technologies supplier based in Milan, to establish a joint venture.
