Seagate Technology plc today announced that its Samsung® HDD division is shipping the new 2.5-inch Spinpoint™ M9T, which at 9.5 mm thin is the world's thinnest 2TB hard drive. Offered in capacities of 1.5TB and 2TB, the Spinpoint M9T mobile drive gives OEMs, channel system integrators and consumers a thin, high-capacity storage solution ideal for external storage, notebook integration and upgrades, desktop, and gaming system applications.

Canfor Pulp Enters Strategic Sales and Marketing Cooperation with UPM-Kymmene

Canfor Pulp Products Inc. and UPM-Kymmene Corporation have today agreed on a strategic sales and marketing cooperation. Beginning January 1, 2014, Canfor Pulp's sales network will represent and co-market UPM Pulp products in North America and Japan whereas UPM's Pulp sales network will represent and co-market Canfor Pulp products in Europe and China. In the initial phase, the cooperation agreement will consist of six grades of market pulp and approximately one million tonnes of pulp sales from eight mills on three continents.

A potential “fountain of youth” for metal, GE (NYSE:GE) researchers announced the use of a process called “cold spray,” in which metal powders are sprayed at high velocities to build a part or add material to repair an existing part. Cold spray is part of GE’s expanded additive manufacturing toolkit.

Battelle Device Transforms Wood Chips and Agricultural Waste into Bio-Oil

Battelle engineers and scientists have developed a mobile device that transforms unwanted biomass materials such as wood chips or agricultural waste into valuable bio-oil using catalytic pyrolysis. As currently configured, the Battelle-funded unit converts one ton of pine chips, shavings and sawdust into as much as 1,300 gallons of wet bio-oil per day.
