Agilent Enhances LC and LC/MS Products

Agilent Technologies Inc. today announced three enhancements for its LC and LC/MS products. The company has increased mass scan speeds on its LC/MS single quadrupole instruments, launched the StreamSelect LC/MS system, and released new MassHunter walk-up software.

New Family of Rare-Earth Quasicrystals Discovered

Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Ames Laboratory have discovered a new family of rare-earth quasicrystals using an algorithm they developed to help pinpoint them. Quasicrystalline materials may be found close to crystalline phases that contain similar atomic motifs, called crystalline approximants. And just like fishing experts know that casting a line in the right habitat hooks the big catch, the scientists used their knowledge to hone in on just the right spot for new quasicrystal materials discovery.

Outokumpu to Supply Tailor-Made Advanced Materials for Chemical Tankers to Chinese Shipyard

Outokumpu has won a contract to supply tailor-made advanced materials for chemical tankers. Outokumpu will supply 12 250 tonnes of duplex 2205® stainless steel to a Chinese shipyard for five chemical tankers ordered by Stolt Tankers. Stolt Tankers operates one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated fleet of chemicals tankers. The contract also includes an option for additional three vessels.
