Novel Method to Detect Fatigue in Wind Turbines

A significant percentage of the costs of wind energy is due to wind turbine failures, as components are weakened under turbulent air flow conditions and need to be replaced. The challenge for the team was to find a method for detecting fatigue in the wind turbines' parts without having to remove each of the components and while the turbine is in operation.

Tata Steel Announces Restart of Second Blast Furnace at Port Talbot Steelworks

Tata Steel has restarted its second blast furnace at the Port Talbot steelworks in the UK following the completion of a £185 million rebuilding project. The restarting of Blast Furnace No. 4 – the UK’s largest industrial engineering project last year – will improve Tata Steel’s operational flexibility and enable it to better serve customers in the UK and the rest of Europe.

New Three-Part Program to Expand Recycling of Flexible Film Packaging in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and two national business groups have announced a first-of its-kind, state led-partnership to expand the recycling of flexible film packaging. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Flexible Film Recycling Group (FFRG), and GreenBlue's Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop and implement a three-part program this year to significantly increase the recycling of post-consumer plastic bags, wraps and other film packaging throughout Wisconsin.
