Corus Gets Good Environmental Wrap From UK Government Body

The division of Corus specialising in pre-coated steel strip, Corus Colors, has been nationally recognised for its commitment to the environment, including the development of new environmentally friendly products, through the Business Commitment to the Environment award scheme. The Business Commitment to the Environment award scheme is operated by the national environmental charity Groundwork.

Stephen Timms, Minister for Energy, E-commerce and Postal Services presented the award to Corus Colors Managing Director Jack M MacLachlan on 20th April 2004. Jack MacLachlan says, "Our approach is to develop products which contain no hazardous substances and which can be easily re-cycled at the end of life. A million tonnes of pre-coated steel products are produced by Corus Colors each year and the environmental benefits resulting from our development work in recent years is therefore significant."

Corus recognises the need to develop environmentally friendly products in a sustainable manner. All Corus sites in the UK have the environmental standard ISO 14001. The approach to product development is shown in each of the industries supplied with pre-coated strip by Corus; construction, domestic appliances and automotive.
