PPG Introduce New Optiblue Glass with Exceptional Solar-Control Characteristics

PPG Industries has introduced Solarban 80 Optiblue glass, presenting two new aesthetic and performance options:

Solarban 80 coating on the second surface of an Optiblue glass substrate with a clear interior lite – In a standard one-inch insulating glass unit, this pairing generates a light, steel blue-green appearance with visible light transmittance (VLT) of 34 percent and a solar heat-gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.20. The resulting light-to-solar gain (LSG) ratio of 1.70 is well above the U.S. Department of Energy’s 1.25 LSG threshold for spectrally selective glass.

Solarban 80 coating on the second surface of an Optiblue glass substrate with an Optiblue interior lite – This combination delivers a rich, steel-blue tint with VLT of 25 percent, a SHGC of 0.20 and an LSG ratio of 1.23.

Solarban 80 Optiblue glass adds two more blue-green tints with exceptional solar-control characteristics. Earlier this year, PPG introduced Solarban 80 coating on the second surface of traditional clear glass with an Optiblue interior lite, which creates a subtle green-gray appearance and an LSG ratio of 1.48.

Solarban 80 coating also is available on a clear glass substrate with a clear interior lite. In this configuration, the glass exhibits a steel-jade appearance when shaded and a tranquil, reflective finish in direct sunlight. An LSG ratio of 1.98 makes it one of the the industry’s highest-performing solar-control, low-emissivity glasses.

All Solarban 80 and Solarban 80 Optiblue glasses are available through the PPG Certified Fabricator Program – an elite, nationwide network of glass fabricators specially trained and audited by PPG to deliver the highest-quality glass and provide fast-track delivery to meet tight construction deadlines.
