Minerals Corp Ltd’s has now moved into the marketing stage selling kaolin (also known as China clay) from its Skardon River plant. They have now commissioned the wet and dry plants and expect to have product ready for sale in August.
The plant located in far north Queensland (Australia) is producing materials for the rapidly growing Asian quality paint and paper market. They have predicted sales of 25-30,000 tonnes in the first year.
The materials produced at the Skardon River plant are of the highest quality. Similar quality materials are normally sourced from USA, Brazil and Georgia, and capable of fetching $1050 per tonne. This makes the Skardon River plant ideally located to capitalise on demands of the Asian market.
25% of production is aimed at the paper industry, with the rest to be used for paint, ceramics, polymers and cement.
