PDR Selects 3D Systems’ Medical Grade Print Materials for Medical Modeling

3D Systems, a supplier of three dimensional content-to-print solutions, has declared that Accura ClearVue has been selected by a UK-based medical modeling organization, PDR for the medical modeling business.

A clear print material, Accura ClearVue provides performance that is similar to ABS and polycarbonate for snap fit applications and has met the exact necessities of USP Class VI.

The National Centre for Product Design and Development Research and PDR’s Medical Application Group perform applied research for anatomic models and medical devices, and offer medical models that are specified for patients to the National Health Service, in order to enhance patient security and surgery planning in the operating theatre. Accura ClearVue material will be used for color-marking the selective areas such as a tumor. It will also provide a clear view of internal structure and features. These medical models are specifically used for planning pre-surgery and in the operation theatre to help the surgeon through complex methods.

According to head of the Medical Application Group at PDR, Dr. Dominic Eggbeer, the company was searching for a high production of SLA material, which provides very good transparency and has the potential to emphasize the anatomical characteristics for medical models. The SLA material enables the manufacturing of parts, which can be utilized for a wide range of industrial and medical applications. Addition of Accura ClearVue to the additive manufacturing solutions is an added advantage.
