BP Solvay to Cut HDPE Production by 260 Million Pounds

It was announced today that BP Solvay Polyethylene North America will reduce its production capacity of high density polyethylene (HDPE) by 260 million pounds per year.

The BP Solvay joint venture will cease operation of three small capacity lines during the first half of 2003. The changes will affect production at the Deer Park, Texas facility and were brought about by economic pressures.

The production capacity will be taken up by the new HDPE slurry loop plant at Cedar Bayou. Texas. This plant, of which BP Solvay owns a half share in, has a 700 million pound annual production capacity and is scheduled for start up in early 2003. Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP owns the other half share in the Cedar Bayou plant.
