BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals Starts up 10th Furnace at Steam Cracker Facility in Port Arthur

The BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals LCC (BTP) joint venture (60 percent BASF, 40 percent Total) today announced the startup of a 10th furnace at its steam cracker facility in Port Arthur, Texas. The additional furnace improves feedstock flexibility, enhances plant reliability, and increases annual production capacity of ethylene to more than one million metric tons.

Accurate Simulation Model of Hydrogen’s Behavior at High Pressures

Some experiments are really difficult to perform in practice. To gain a detailed understanding of the behaviour of molecular hydrogen (H2), for example, we would have to produce such high pressures as those occurring within the core of gaseous planets like Jupiter and Saturn or inside stars. If such conditions cannot be created, an alternative method is to simulate them on the computer, but the model has to be accurate.
