Explanation of Seating Load Table

On Technetics’ customer layout, you will see a table detailing load type, total estimated seating load, total estimated end force, and total estimated load. This table provides information on the bolting configuration that will determine the force requirements. Here is how each field is calculated: Total Est. Seating Load is the estimated total load it would take to compress the seal. This is calculated by taking the seating load multiplied by the circumference of the seal based on the seal OD. Total Est.

End Force is the estimated system pressure on the bolts of your application. We calculate this field by taking the PSI and multiplying it by the area, which is found by using the seal OD’s circumference. Total Est. Load is calculated by adding the two fields above. While these numbers are estimations and need to be further verified, it’s a starting point to make sure your bolts won’t be stretched too much and fail.
