MIG Announces a MEMS Conference Track at 2013 International CES

MEMS Industry Group (MIG), a global industry organization with more than 150 member-companies and partners, today announced a micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) conference track at the 2013 International CES. Featuring a keynote by Klaus Meder, president of Bosch Automotive Electronics, and industry panels designed for consumer-electronics original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs), the MEMS conference session will help attendees to explore some of the most exciting commercial applications of the ‘miniature intelligent machines’ that are changing the ways in which consumers interact with the digital world.

FBW Produces Quality Masterbatches with Coperion STS 35 Screw Compounders

A few months ago, FBW GmbH, a plastics compounding specialist in Niederzier/Germany, put into successful operation two STS 35 advanced Standard Twin Screw Compounders from Coperion GmbH, Stuttgart. Equipped with 35 mm diameter screws, these compounders have since been producing a whole range of high-grade pigment and additive masterbatches, mainly in small and medium-sized batches, i.e. in sizes ranging between 25 and 300 kg.

ARPA-E Awards Vorbeck $1.5 Million Grant to Develop Low-Cost Battery for Hybrid Vehicles

Vorbeck Materials Corp. has been awarded a two-year, $1.5 million grant from the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency–Energy (ARPA-E) to develop a low-cost, fast-charging battery for hybrid vehicles.

PPG Provides Global TiO2 Technology License to Henan Billions

PPG Industries today announced that it has entered into a technology license agreement with China-based Henan Billions Chemicals Joint Stock Co., Ltd., that will provide Henan Billions the right to use PPG’s technology for the manufacture of chloride-grade titanium dioxide (TiO2) on a worldwide basis. This agreement completes the license of PPG technology previously announced by both companies. Terms of the license agreement were not disclosed.

Hybrid Scaffold Material Holds Promise for Future Skin Tissue Engineering

Boeing awards Saft Li-Ion Battery Pack Contract for Communications Satellites

Saft, the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of advanced batteries for industry, has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract from Boeing to build Li-ion battery packs for four new 702SP communications satellites. The technology-rich “small platform” satellites, designed to operate in the 3- to 8-kilowatt power range, are being developed by Boeing for Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) and Satélites Mexicanos (Satmex).
