Fiber Alignment Using PI Hexapods

This video shows how PI hexapods align fibers with submicrometer accuracy to reach the so-called “first light”. PI provides a variety of innovative fiber alignment systems. Fiber alignment is an example for positioning on 6 axes with submicrometer accuracy. PI hexapods employ parallel kinematics for identical motion characteristics on all axes. They also exhibit high dynamics and repeatability for efficient processes. Hexapods require high-performance digital controller due to their parallel-kinematic design. They can be connected to the automation system by means of Ethernet and field bus interfaces. PI hexapods are more compact, more flexible, and easier to operate than traditional 6-axis systems. They are available in many sizes and configurations for various loads.
