The Newage Pin Brinell is a cost-effective hardness tester that uses a calibrated shear pin to control the amount of applied load. This ensures consistent loading regardless of the operator.
Recognized as the industry standard for economical Brinell hardness testing, the Pin Brinell covers the full Brinell range (HB100 to HB700).
Compact and easy to use, it is especially well-suited for applications where placing a sample on a traditional bench tester would be difficult.
To operate the Pin Brinell, the user applies force to the indenter using a hammer or clamping device. The applied force is limited by a calibrated shear pin, which breaks once its shear threshold is reached.
The diameter of the resulting indentation can then be measured using a Brinell scope, such as the HiLight scope, or, for higher precision, the Newage B.O.S.S. system.
The Pin Brinell provides a load-to-indentation size ratio that matches the most common Brinell test setup (3000 kg load, 10 mm ball). Brinell values are calculated using the standard Brinell formula.
It is available in two models: the CPIT Impact Tester and the CPST Static & Impact Tester.
The CPIT model includes the indenter holder, impact cylinder, standard indenter (HB100–450), impact cylinder handle, and 250 calibrated shear pins.
The CPST model includes a manually operated clamping device for static testing, along with large flat, small flat, and Vee anvils. It also comes with the indenter holder, rubber indenter boot, standard indenter (HB100–450), 7X Brinell scope, nominal HB200 test block, pin ejector, tools, and 250 calibrated shear pins. Both models are supplied in a durable wooden protective case.
Compact and portable, the Pin Brinell is well suited for applications where mounting the sample on a conventional bench tester is impractical.
Pin Brinell Features and Benefits
Easy Operation
Just one impression and one measurement—no further calculations are needed.
Minimized Operator Variation
The use of calibrated shear pins ensures a consistent load is applied, regardless of individual technique.
Cost-Effective
An affordable solution for nearly any Brinell hardness application, with low upfront and ongoing costs.
Wide Hardness Range
A single model supports testing across the full Brinell range from HB100 to HB700 using the same pins.
