Cannon Instrument Company is excited to introduce its new CAV™ instrument series. These instruments combine the greatest aspects/features of CANNON’s three generations of automated kinematic viscosity (KV) instruments, which have dominated the industry in quality, accuracy, and dependability for the past five decades.
Like previous generations, the CAV 5 family of KV instruments follows ASTM D445 - the gold standard for measuring kinematic viscosity.
The brand-new CAV 5 platform is intended to provide users with maximum flexibility in selecting features and performance to suit their unique requirements. Customers can pick the features they require for their application or applications, or they can have all the functions on a single all-rounder device. The platform is made to deal with a wide range of sample materials in the field of kinematic viscosity.
The CAV-D, CAV-X, and CAV-R versions are included in the CAV 5 instrument platform.
- CAV-D is the successor of CAV 4.1
- CAV-X is the replacement for the CAV 4.2, miniAV-X
- The CAV-R incorporates the key characteristics of the CAV 2100, CAV 4.1, CAV 4.2, and miniAV-X
Each model is designed, priced, and positioned appropriately.
Key Features: One Platform, Any Sample, Total Control
The CAV 5 optimizes throughput, reliability, and control by combining intelligent thermal management, enhanced cleaning, and autonomous operation in a small, space-saving design. This platform combines the best features of three generations (CAV 2100, miniAV, and CAV 4) and incorporates new improvements.
This instrument offers Cannon’s best performance to date and can be installed and controlled from any location, thanks to decades of technical experience. While IntelliStart, Intelligent SmartDraw, and Run True guarantee precise, repeatable measurements over a broad range of viscosities, Tray Heat and TargetHeat swiftly and evenly bring samples to test-ready conditions by administering heat only where necessary to safeguard sample integrity.
Efficiency is more than testing: the WashPort and Vial Wash systems enable accurate, solvent-conscious cleaning that improves hazardous-material management while reducing waste and consumables. Cleaning performance is further enhanced with CleanBoost, three-solvent capabilities, and heated waste lines.
Laboratories benefit from standardized, compliant performance with full data visibility thanks to autonomous, untethered operation and Sync Anywhere powered by FlowHub, which enables centralized method deployment and automatic result synchronization across CAV 5, CCS-G6, and UltraVis instruments.
The CAV 5 offers continuous operation and smooth integration into any workflow thanks to its single bath/tube design, which supports redundancy and zero downtime.

Quoting, Part Numbers, and Pricing Info:
Users can start quoting the new models on the CAV 5 platform with 90-day delivery terms from March 16th, 2026. Details on part numbers, costs, and alternatives will be sent out separately. Depending on inventory availability (which is anticipated to run out by September 2026), the CAV 4.2 instruments will be available for quotation until August 2026. CAV 4.1 and miniAV-X will not be available starting immediately.
The sales manager must authorize all new CAV 4.1 and miniAV-X quotes. The appropriate CAV 5 model must be used in place of the current CAV 4.1 and miniAV-X quotes.
FlowHub® Software
The Cannon website offers the extra software FlowHub® for free download. It uses an Ethernet port and a computer running Windows 10 or later.
FlowHub enables the central deployment of authorized procedures, the local execution of tests, and the collection of findings across laboratories, campuses, or multiple sites.
Additionally, it makes it simple to retrieve sample data from an infinite number of instruments at various places using one or more computers at any point on the company's network.
Key features of the FlowHub Software include:
- Checking standard administration
- Transferring carousel data to instruments
- Automated backups of instrument settings
Spare Parts Lists for Customers and Service
The Operator's Manual will contain a section on parts that customers should keep on hand for normal use. The Service Manual includes extra components that service workers and distributors can stock for maintenance and repair.
Service Policy on CAV 2100, CAV 4.1, CAV 4.2, miniAV-X:
- Cannon will offer service support for CAV 4.2, CAV 4.1, and miniAV-X equipment purchased in 2019 or later until 2033
- Service for CAV 2100 models will terminate on December 31st, 2027. Customers using these models will need to upgrade to the CAV 5 platform
- For units acquired before 2019, service for CAV 4.2, CAV 4.1, and miniAV-X instruments will terminate in 2027. By December 31st, 2027, the existing instruments must be replaced with the new CAV 5 platform
Some extra points to understand in this policy:
- Distributors may stock CAV 4.2, CAV 4.1, and miniAV-X parts for instruments purchased in 2019 or later. Cannon Instrument Company® expects distributors to respect this policy
- Cannon Instrument Company® no longer provides servicing for instruments purchased before 2019, due to part obsolescence. Cannon Instrument Company® needs to protect the limited parts supply to satisfy customers who have just purchased
Cannon Instrument Company® is thrilled to announce the CAV 5 platform and support users in promoting and selling it.
