Avenir Photonics' SIENA elevates near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy to an advanced level. It merges the capabilities and versatility of an array-based spectrometer with the compactness, affordability, and dependability necessary for mobile applications and industrial sensors.
For the first time, this system provides wavelength ranges extending up to 2100 nm using an uncooled InGaAs array sensor.
Typically, NIR spectrometers are categorized as either high-performance or low-cost. The SIENA offers the technical capabilities required for accurate measurements at a price point that is conducive to integration within portable and industrial sensors.
Its exceptional sensitivity, optimized stray-light suppression, and high dynamic range allow for precise measurement of large absorbance values.
The SIENA is designed with adaptability for specific applications: it comes in three standard wavelength ranges that can be tailored to enhance resolution. The standard entrance slit of 20 µm is user-replaceable and can be easily swapped to achieve improved sensitivity.
Its robust microcontroller facilitates on-board auto exposure, averaging, buffering, and spectrum processing. Furthermore, it supports the implementation of application-specific spectrum analysis.

Resolutions are given for the default 20 µm entrance slit. A larger entrance slit typically increases both the resolution and the sensitivity proportional to its width. The wavelength accuracy is typically one-third of the resolution.
Image Sensor
The Siena employs an innovative InGaAs line sensor that features integrated dark current compensation. Conventional InGaAs sensors operating beyond 1700 nm require cooling to avoid rapid saturation due to dark current.
In contrast, the Siena can function at room temperature up to 2100 nm without the need for cooling. This advancement removes the necessity for a fan and contributes to a reduction in both size and power consumption.
