The small Thermo Scientific™ NanoDrop™ Eight Spectrophotometer measures eight samples in less than 20 seconds. It is an excellent solution for pharmaceutical, biotech, and academic researchers who want a greater throughput capacity for testing nucleic acid and protein samples. Acclaro Sample Intelligence Technology is included into NanoDrop Eight software, which recognizes sample contaminants and reports true sample concentration.
NanoDrop Eight Spectrophotometer Features
The NanoDrop Eight Spectrophotometer has similar characteristics to the flagship NanoDrop Ultra Microvolume UV-Vis Spectrophotometers and Fluorometers.
Advanced sample intelligence: Acclaro software can detect contaminants and provide accurate quantification findings by evaluating absorbance throughout the whole spectrum
Differentiates DNA from RNAL: Acclaro software uses full-spectrum data to distinguish between DNA and RNA and calculate corrected nucleic acid concentrations.
Rapid time to results: Results are displayed within seconds after starting a measurement, and Auto-Blank and Auto-Measure options can help to optimize the procedure even further
The dependable lab partner: Since its introduction in 2001, NanoDrop spectrophotometers have been crucial in many laboratories, with over 55,000 research citations
Furthermore, the NanoDrop Eight Spectrophotometer provides essential characteristics for labs with a large number of samples to measure, particularly those in regulated environments.
- High throughput: Quantify eight samples in less than 20 seconds, or a 96-well plate (eight samples at a time) in under 6 minutes
- Ready to start: NanoDrop Eight operating software includes several measurement apps, including the most often used - dsDNA, RNA, Protein A280, and UV-Vis
- Optional security software for compliance: SciVault software is integrated into the NanoDrop Eight user interface and allows users to comply with FDA 21 CFR Part 11 electronic recordkeeping regulations
- Ergonomic ambidextrous pipetting: The movable pipette guide enables both left- and right-handed users to rapidly and comfortably dispense samples
- LIMS compatibility: The export data formats are easily collected by industry-leading Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) software

The NanoDrop Eight pedestal array is perpendicular to the front of the instrument, giving users a natural pipetting motion. The magnetic pipette guide is movable from side to side, allowing both left- and right-handed users to dispense samples swiftly and easily.
SciVault Software for NanoDrop Spectrophotometers Aids Regulatory Compliance
With the optional SciVault software, regulated labs can utilize the NanoDrop Eight Spectrophotometer to measure biological molecules. The software includes a compliance package to assist with meeting electronic record standards outlined in the US Food and Drug Administration’s Title 21 CFR Part 11 regulations.
SciVault software is integrated into the NanoDrop Eight software user interface and manages user account access, digital signatures, and audit logs. It can be installed on a single computer to manage rights and audit logs for numerous NanoDrop Eight instruments in various laboratories.
Installation qualification and operational qualification (IQ/OQ) paperwork and services are also available to ensure that the instrument operates in accordance with the manufacturer's standards.

Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) are becoming increasingly popular for managing data provided by many equipment on various platforms. NanoDrop Eight Software outputs data in formats that are easily captured by industry-leading LIMS software, such as Thermo Scientific SampleManager LIMS Software and LabWare LIMS®.
Users can include absorbance data, report data, or both in their data files and export them in universal data formats such as comma- (.csv) or tab-separated values (.tsv). Users can also configure a data directory to be automatically exported, and then have the LIMS software scan the folder for NanoDrop Eight instrument data to archive.
A Worthy Upgrade for the NanoDrop 8000 Spectrophotometer
As of September 2021, the NanoDrop Eight instrument has replaced the NanoDrop 8000 Spectrophotometer in the Thermo Scientific UV-Vis product range. As shown in the table, the new instrument has innovative software that adds intelligent analysis to the measurement and evaluation of DNA, RNA, proteins, and more in the lab, up to eight at a time.
