Velp FIWE3 Crude Fiber Extraction Rack

FIWE units are suitable for crude fiber analysis and detergent fiber extraction using officially recognized methods, including the Weende method, the Van Soest method, and others. These fiber analyzers use pre-heated reagents to perform fiber analysis according to standard procedures.

Vegetables and derived products include substances from several categories:

  • Carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and mineral salts
  • A non-digestible component made of polymers such as lignin, cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectin, referred to as fiber
  • Nutritional importance: Excess fiber may cause digestive problems
  • Low fiber intake may lead to irregularities in the digestive system
  • Authorities in almost all countries require manufacturers of food and feed products to declare fiber content as part of the nutritional table

Weende Method: The oldest analytical approach still in use today, in which fiber concentration is measured as crude fiber (CF)

Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) Method: Developed by Van Soest, and now the most common method for analyzing fiber in animal feed

High Performance

  • Rapid analysis: 2 hours compared to 6 hours with manual systems
  • Reliable results
  • High reproducibility
  • Back-pressure pump prevents crucible clogging

Versatile

  • Total raw fiber extraction using the Weende technique
  • Neutral and acid detergent fiber extraction using NDF, ADF, and Van Soest methods
  • Acid detergent lignin extraction with ADL and Van Soest methods
  • Fiber fraction analysis (cellulose, hemicellulose, and pectin)
  • Integrates boiling, rinsing, and filtration
  • Allows for individual or batch sample processing

Full System

  • Reagent preheating on RC 2 hotplate (provided)
  • Same crucibles used for weighing, drying, and washing—preventing loss

Recommendations

  • Combine with COEX for cold extraction prior to fiber analysis
