Aluminium Smelting

Alumimium Smelters are involved with producing aluminium ingots from raw materials or recycled aluminium. These ingots are then sent to secondary processing where they are converted into finished products.
Equipment
VHE's manual butt press is a compact scissor-type spreader designed to work between the yoke and the top of the anode butt. The unit is designed to remove the butt in one operation.
VHE's anode and cathode recording ammeters are designed to measure the d.c. current in cathode riser bars and anode rod stems in alumium smelters and have been redesigned, including an updated display panel incorporating Bluetooth technology. In use, visual and aural prompts cue the operator to press a data button, when the reading is transmitted to a handheld computer running customised software.
Accurate control over aluminium flow during casting is important in any casthouse - precise control is essential for today's quality demands. VHE's Metal Flow Controller can provide the accuracy demanded by modern casthouses for controlling aluminum flow from launders into casting moulds.
The Conscan objective surface profilometer available from CSM Instruments combines the 3D chromatic confocal technology and the traditional microscopy.
Measuring current distribution through anodes can often be a difficult undertaking; traditional measuring devices can often be quite cumbersome, time consuming and unnecessarily precise even when the objective is only to take a quick measurement. VHE has designed a new breed of current measurement instruments designed to be easy to operate, lightweight and quick.
Historically, smelters often continued to use toed-in stubs until they would no longer fit into the anode, when the bent stubs would be cut off and replacements welded onto the yoke. Today, many smelters accept that the use of a stub straightener has a cost benefit. Straight stubs reduce operational difficulties and improve the stub-carbon volt drop.
VHE’s collar filling machine accurately measures and dispenses carbon paste into the preformed collars. The filling system ensures even distribution of the carbon paste and provides a virtually dust-free operation to produce uniformly shaped and centered carbon collars.
The VHE Hall Effect Ammeter continues to be in demand by those smelters paying increased attention to pot performance. customers for this particular piece of equipment include three ammeters configured for cathode riser bar measurements to Aluar in Argentina, and one configured for anode rod measurements to a European smelter.
VHE's enhanced ohmmeter is able to measure the electrical resistance between points of different voltage potential. Conventional ohmmeters do not have this capability.
